一九八三年九月二日，一家报纸刊登了一封不到两百字的读者来信，标题是:《自学的业余医生治好了严重疾病》。这位自学的“业余医生”就是蔡昌晋;治好的严重疾病是“脑溢血、脑栓塞后遗症”。第二天刚上班，一位师兄就对他说:“你救死扶伤，千辛万苦，昨天晚报都登了……”他淡淡地笑了笑，心里并不觉得很舒坦。他知道:那封读者来信的发表并不比他治疗疑难病容易一一报社同样要承担一点“风险”。

年初，省内两家报纸的记者先后数次采访了他。他们分别向领导汇报了，准备报道他的事迹。一家报纸的同志为此还走访了有关部门。有关同志说:“蔡昌晋的事我们知道。他太胆大了，敢打哑门(指进行穴位注射)，连我们的医生都不敢。你们要报道，我们不支持，也不反对，今后出了医疗事故，我们不负任何责

任……”

虽然，蔡昌晋每天治疗十五人次以上，至今已有七万多人次，从未出过一次医疗事故;虽然，对病员进行注射的所有穴位，他都是首先在自己或亲人身上进行试验，直到认为稳妥后，才对病员进行治疗的;但是，谁能保证他永远也不出医疗事故呢?就是最博学的医学教授，也不能保证他教出的最优秀的毕业生，一生的行医中不出一次事故呀!除非他教结生一个秘诀:“永远不要治别人难治的病，远照本宣科，千万不要去探求……”当然，关部门的同志，财群众的生命安全高度负责是完全正确的，于是，报社发出了一封表扬的读者来信……

一九七一年七月，时近黄昏，毒热的太阳余域不减，慢吞吞地向着西山踱去。

四川省江油县重华镇的碎石路上，走来了一个还生活在寒冬的农民。他头藏着一顶皱巴巴的旧棉帽，身上穿着一件缀满了补丁的油黑棉袄，双手插进袖筒里，弓着腰，瑟缩着，向街上一家茶旅店走来。他是来求医的。听说街上茶旅店里住着几十个从成都来的修电线的工人老大哥，他们中有一位从上海来的医生，手艺硬是好，医好了好多农二哥的老毛病。“上海医生愿意医我这个寒症吗?他能医得好?”这个三十多岁的农民怀着朦胧的希望走进了茶旅店。

接待这位农民的工人老大哥，就是被讹传为“上海医生”的外线电工蔡昌晋。此次，他们是为检修成都到马角坝的十一万伏高压线路来到江油县境内，住在重华镇的。此时，工人们已经下班了。蔡昌晋仅穿着一件白背心，赤着胳膊，头上还冒着细密的汗珠。他望着这位身着冬装，仍冷得发抖的农民弟兄，毫无把握却毫不推辞地说:“我给你医。”

蔡昌晋能有机会到上海学医一年多，是与师兄叶永良的无辜饮弹，最后终于冤死联系在一起的。

一九六八年三月，成都文庙街口“文攻武卫”的冷弹，击中了正在“促生产”的外线电工叶永良。当时，蔡昌晋与他仅一公尺之距。

护理长期昏迷的病人，是枯躁而繁琐的:两分钟要用吸痰器吸一次痰，两小时要翻一次身，两小时要喂一次(鼻饲)流汁食物，天天要洗澡擦身;因为病人长了褥疮，天天都要换药，还要洗屎洗尿，……蔡昌晋他们两人轮流二护理，每天各自工作十二小时。

蔡昌晋除担负师兄的护理工作外，还主动打扫病房卫生,倒尿盆、痰盂,护理同室其他病员，为病员们买东西……病员和医务人员都夸这个寡言少语的成都工人是一个外冷内热的好青年。

两三个月过去了。一天，蔡昌晋对医院的领导说，他要求利用空闲时间学习针灸。

蔡昌晋要求学习针灸的理由，应该说是很充足的一一在外出检修线路期间，由于人数不多，一般没有配备医务人员，大多是由蔡昌晋领一点常用药带到工作现场。缺医少药的农村，时常有患病的农民来向工人老大哥求医要药。虽然APC、止痛片之类的药物并不贵，但对一个劳动日只值几分、一毛多钱的山区农民来说，几片药就等于他们一整天的劳动收入!如果要不到药，他们通常也是买不起药的。蔡昌晋带的药，往往很快就发完了。他望着那些满怀希望前来求医的病员，空着手失望而归，心里很不是滋味，时常想:如果我不用药也能为农民治病，该有多好呵……

He looked at the patients who came to seek medical treatment with great hope and returned empty-handed disappointed. He often thought: How good if I could treat the farmers without taking medicine.?

他那颇有浪漫主义色彩的想法，现在有可能成为现实了。他陈述的要求学医的理由，感动了当时龙华医院的某位领导，于是，他破例地成了医院门诊部的针灸学员。

他每天挤出几个小时背穴位、在棉球上练扎针、到门诊部看医生扎针，接着是在自己身上扎针、找准穴位、体会针感。不知在自己身上扎了多少针，他终于得到医生的允许，进入实习阶段，开始给病员治疗。他在病员身上扎的第一针--肩髃穴，是以失败开始的。那位三十多岁的女同志被他扎疼了，流出了眼泪。

也是在这位病员身上，他第一次尝到了“成功”的滋味。几天后，他再次为她扎针，这位大姐对他说:“小蔡，你进步真快，今天我的感觉很好!”这微小的成功，是他在自己的肩偶穴位反复试扎了之后取得的。

“上海来的蔡医生手艺好得很，医病又不要钱。”这消息立刻成了重华镇一带的重要新闻，比这几年到处张贴的“中央文革首长重要讲话”对多灾多难、多病多痛的平头百姓更有吸引力。这新闻也飞入了被“造返回乡”的海灯法师耳中。

一天晚间，几位爱好武术的师兄邀约蔡昌晋一道拜访了海灯法师。

蔡昌晋素不多言，海灯法师却很愿意和他交谈。几位师兄要求范老师(海灯俗名为范无病)教他们的拳脚功夫，法师避而不答。当蔡昌晋请求范老师教他少林按摩术时，海灯微笑着问道:“你会针灸，为啥还要学按摩?
